I love this little park next to the Canal St. Martin especially in summer. From across the canal the white flowers (roses, hydrangeas) glow at dusk under the trees. In the evenings the sun shines through the grasses. Up close the park looks a little uncared for, but I rather like the informal messy feel. The trees are a fabulous very cut leaf acer. I’m guessing but the plants are probably Hydrangea paniculata, Festuca glauca, a white ground cover rose and a ground cover geranium.
How to get there: Place Raoul Follereau, Paris 75010. The nearest metro stations are Chateau Landon on line 7 or the Gare de l’Est on lines 4, 7, or 4.
Also in the area: Place Raoul Follereau sits on the lovely tree-lined Canal St Martin, just along from the Jardin Villemin (a review for another day). The Canal side quays are closed to cars on Sundays making it a pleasant place to wander and to discover the many small independant shops, bars, cafés and restaurants. Particular favourites of mine include the Hotel du Nord restaurant and the ever vibrant Au Comptoir Generale, a café, bar, shop, exhibition space and general hipster hang-out.
